Limestone Hills Real Estate

Limestone Hills Real Estate

Limestone Hills is the largest real estate neighborhood in northern Delaware. It has 1805 residences, a combination of single family homes, townhomes, condominiums, apartments, retail, offices, and a therapy center. It is a Planned Unit Development (PUD), with extensive common ground open spaces, walking paths,  play areas, and even a multipurpose field much beloved by soccer players. Looking at Limestone Hills from the road it is somewhat misleading, as it appears to be a number of different communities, when it is actually one large community.

Originally this was the horse farm for Wilhelmina Dupont Ross. That is reflected in the equestrian nature of the streets, Steeplechase, Belmont, Fairhill and so on. In fact the Derby horse Kelso (3 times "Horse of the Year" in 1960, 61, 62) was kept in a barn (since demolished) on West Longspur.

The first section of Limestone Hills to be developed includes the only single family homes, town homes, the Stoney Batter Condominium, several older converted barns and the International Montessori School. This is the largest of the 5 communities that comprise Limestone Hills. The homes were constructed from 1984 up through 1991. A decision early on was to utilize a number of different builders in order to provide a wide variety of homes. Allen Liddicoat, Mark & Ruth Handler, the Vilone Brothers, Jack Corozzi, and Vince DiSabatino were all builders in the early stages, though Handler and Liddicoat finished up as the two largest operations. DiSabatino built the Stoney Batter Condos, and even the architect Buck Simpers (who designed the townhomes) had a hand in building a few homes. At one point or another, Liddicoat, Handler, DiSabatino, and Simpers have all lived in Limestone Hills. A very unusual thing to have happen - builders living in the community they built.
